Great weekend trip to Nashville.
Overall summary – great weekend. I was looking forward to hanging out with friends, live music and food/drink entertainment. Nashville definitely delivered on all of those fronts. We also had the extra enjoyment this trip of getting a nice house which was a great home base and a fun place to hang out. Uber made getting around really convenience and we had the perfect sized group for UberXL.
flew on Delta using some miles I had left over for an award flight, connected in Detroit. Arrived at the Nashville airport around 1pm and took an Uber (older guy with Volvo station wagon) to our airbnb house. The airbnb house at 1903 hillside ave was really awesome, amazingly decorated with Nashville/music themed stuff. Since Heather and I were the first ones there, we got to claim the king bedroom. The house was clean, well stocked with kitchen supplies and we were pretty pleased at this Airbnb find, especially considering the cost compared to hotel options
For lunch we walked down to the 12 South area and got a table at Bartaco. Bartaco is a trendy taco joint and was surprisingly crowded (I think we had to wait 5-10 mins for a table) considering it was ~2pm, after the lunch rush. Enjoyed a Yazoo IPA and several tacos with their habanero hot sauce.
After lunch, we walked back to the house, stopping at a gas station on the way to pick up some snacks. Logan and Kristen had arrived, so we talked with them and hung out – Zach and Jess then arrived after 5pm. Enjoyed using the house’s bluetooth speaker setup to stream some hip hop jams.
For dinner, Zach had made a reservation at Urban Grub in the 12 south area. Upon seating, we were greeted by a very lively older waiter who reminded me of Ron White. While he was highly entertaining, most of our dinner service was under the care of a younger guy. Service was on point and the food was excellent. Started with an appetizer of pork fries (pork tenderloin fried) and I went with the waiter’s recommendation of the Double Cut Pork Chop. I can’t remember the exact prep process but it ended up with a great crust and possibly the most tender/joicy pork chop I’ve ever had. Can’t wait to go back to this place
After dinner we hop in an UberXL and head down to Broadway. We found out The Wheel – one of our previous go-tos has closed and hop around some other places. We had one drink at Tequila Cowboy, it is a larger place but oddly they didn’t have live music – it was basically operating as a dance club with hiphop/club music and laser light shit. We end up at The Stage as our final venue for the night – I really like The Stage because they seem to consistently have really great bands playing at night.
I slept in really late – not sure but I think it was closer to noon when I finally got out of bed. Got in an Uber down to The Gulch. We were targeting some biscuit place, line there was crazy. Tried to get in San Anejo but it had a long line as well so we ended up getting a table at Whiskey Kitchen. Good menu, not extensive, but diverse options. I got their hot chicken (I had been wanting to try one of the hot chicken joints in Nashville), it was good but the heat wasn’t amazing. Mac and cheese side was good, was fun to eat carbs again after I’d cut them out for the previous few weeks. Relaxing slow lunch while we decided what to do for remainder of day
Headed back to Broadway and hopped around – Robert’s Western World and then really enjoyed some guys playing on the rooftop at Rippy’s. Good band playing at Rippys – drank a bunch of Shiner Bocks.
